Overview
The exhibition GESTERN IST AUCH MORGEN UND HEUTE IST WIE HIER is an atempt to create an interdisciplinary exhibition concept at the intersection between visual arts and dance.
The internationally reknown artist Ulla von Brandenburg creates a stage situation which runs through three exhibition rooms. The "scenery" is made out of 250 every day clothes from the 1900s until today. The clothes take over the function of props for the duration of the exhibition: Two dancers pull individual costumes during the opening hours and dance an especially developed choreography.
Artist, choreographer and dancers examine together the interaction of movement, dance, clothes and fashion in this expansive exhibition. Through this artistic research they explore how movement and dance transformed during the 20th century and how it influenced contemporary fashion and social conventions. Clothing serves as a symbol of status, taste, differentiating between the sexes and the social, political, etc. group affiliation. On stage, there is a direct effect on the movements of dancers, everyday clothing affects the way we move, how we are perceived by others.
