Overview
As part of the large-scale decentralized exhibition initiative “25/25/25”, the Kunststiftung NRW is bringing 25 international artists together with 25 municipal museums in the state for its 25th anniversary.
For the Museum Ludwig, a group of experts invited the New York artist Ken Okiishi (born 1978) to develop a new artistic work for the Museum Ludwig collection. Okiishi, who in his last work dealt with the tense relationship between painted and electronic images, between gestures and data, enters into a comparable exchange with works by Yves Klein and Günther Uecker from the collection of the Museum Ludwig. His new work is exhibited in three locations in the collection.
Okiishi deals with today's perception via screens, which sometimes seems to make viewing the original superfluous. Works of art and exhibitions are considered “seen”, even if this is only done on the computer or smartphone screen.
