Overview
Manuel Mathieu's first major solo exhibitions in the U.S., World Discovered Under Other Skies and Dwelling on the Invisible, explore issues that remain as urgent today as they have been throughout Haiti's history.
World Discovered Under Other Skies, curated by Amin Alsaden and originally shown at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto, Canada, showcases the artist's striking paintings, unique ceramics, and immersive installations, providing an examination of the complexities and lasting repercussions of Haiti's revolutionary past. Concurrently, Dwelling on the Invisible, curated by MOCA's Adeze Wilford, acts as an extension of Mathieu's narrative, presenting a new body of work including large-scale paintings, photography, sculpture, video, and mosaic installation.
