Biographies of Modern Art. Collectors and Their Works

The exhibition Biographies of Modern Art: Collectors and Their Works introduces eight collectors whose works are now on view at the Brücke-Museum. They include art historian Rosa Schapire, art critic Max Osborn, collector Rosy Fischer, salonière Elsa Glaser, economist Hans Heymann and his brother, author Walther Heymann, jack-of-all-trades Hugo Simon as well as art dealer Victor Wallerstein. Each of them supported and fostered the Brücke group in unique ways.

The wall painting The Collectors, created specifically for this exhibition by Sophie von Hellermann, takes up the stories of the eight figures presented here and brings them back to life. Bright colours and quick brushstrokes interweave the history of the Brücke group with their artworks and the collectors who supported them. Alongside the interviews with descendants and experts, the wall work opens up a unique and contemporary perspective on the eight collectors.
