Ulla von Brandenburg produces stage and costume design for 'Die Walküre'
Ulla von Brandenburg has produced the stage, set and costume design for the third act of the Staatsoper Stuttgart's new production of Wagner’s Die Walküre (The Valkyrie).
In keeping with the concept of a multi-perspective Ring, three different directing teams will each bring one act to the stage: the Dutch theatre collective Hotel Modern (1. Act), light designer Urs Schönebaum (2. Act) and visual artist Ulla von Brandenburg (3. Act). The musical direction of the entire Stuttgart Ring des Nibelungen is taken on by General Music Director Cornelius Meister.
The new production aims to highlight the complexity of the 'Gesamtkunstwerk' Der Ring des Nibelungen by emphasising its individual acts. In the third act, Ulla von Brandenburg stages the character Wotan's inner drama as a 'tableau vivant', an interaction of colours, shapes and changing axes.
The premiere of Die Walküre marks the start of the Staatsoper Stuttgart’s Spring Festival #3. Amongst other events, the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart presents the exhibition Moved by Schlemmer. 100 Years of Triadic Ballet with the participation of Ulla von Brandenburg.
