Mary Ramsden: Desire Line

‘The cattle, standing behind Mary’s studio, had an excellent view of the paintings in progress. Through the window, the building – a former barn – became a vitrine, displaying large upright canvases, each covered in a wash of some loose, tender colour: a liquid blue, a tawny brown, a bright, juvenile neon yellow. Every canvas bore some parts that were hardly worked at all, and other areas that had been more intensively painted.
